Anne McClymont Elementary has been a top rated school since opening the doors in 1994, and consistently ranking among the top elementary schools in British Columbia. While high test scores are fantastic, we know that today's students also need the skills and self-confidence to succeed as leaders in the 21st Century. They need to be able to communicate clearly, to work as a team, and to be self-motivated and analytical thinkers. In recent years' parent and staff surveys, it was noted that thinking and problem solving, along with leadership and principle-based learning are the most important skills our students need to learn. In the Spring of 2014, our Goal setting committee at AME participated in a book study on 'The Leader in Me", which is based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We were absolutely engrossed by this material and strongly believed that with introducing these teachings, along with our continued development of critical thinking, we could further reach our school goals and develop our students as life long learners and leaders.

So, during our Pro D days in 2014 school year, the entire teaching staff were trained in Dr. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

We are excited to continue on this journey this year, developing the leadership abilities of our students, helping each child become leaders of their own learning and life, incorporating the 7 Habits into our daily instruction, and providing multiple leadership opportunities in every classroom and throughout our school for students.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, for helping create leaders of self by teaching the skills of self-discipline, self-reliance, and self-confidence through the 7 Habits.

"We only get one chance to prepare our students for a future that none of us can possibly predict.  What are we going to do with that one chance?"
